Walking the Talk

Updated: 3 days ago

Motivated individual leading by example

At Mentor it Forward, we’ve always believed in walking the talk. We champion opportunity, advocate for access, and challenge the barriers that hold people back from contributing their full potential. But sometimes, even with the best of intentions, blind spots creep in. And that’s when it’s time to pause, zoom out, and ask ourselves the harder questions.

Recently, our founder shared his raw and honest view in a new article—an unfiltered reflection on how we as individuals, teams, and organisations often fall into the same traps we claim to stand against. The post doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths. It calls out the overused excuse of “you don’t have local experience” and unpacks what that phrase often hides underneath. But it also turns the spotlight inward—asking whether we, as a values-driven community, are doing enough to create the opportunities we ask others to provide.

One of the truths we’ve come to recognise is this: many of the professionals at the beginning of their careers—the so-called "inexperienced"—are often the hungriest, most motivated, and passionate people in the room. They’re eager to prove themselves, open to feedback, quick to learn, and deeply committed to making a difference. Ironically, that’s exactly the kind of energy most employers say they’re looking for.

Ready to conquer the world. A highly motivated young professional

We find the beauty of this piece to be in its honesty. It doesn’t pretend to have all the answers. It simply invites reflection, accountability, and most of all, action.

If you’ve ever mentored someone who’s full of potential but not given a shot…

If you’ve ever tried to break in, only to be told you’re “not quite there yet”…

Or if you’re someone who genuinely wants to make a difference but isn’t sure how—this read might hit close to home. To read the article. click here: My story. My view. Raw. Unfiltered. | LinkedIn
