Expectations from the program and your mentor
I'd like to talk to others who have made a significant career change and learn from their stories. I'd like also like come out of the program with an understanding of where I can market myself better to move into my field, and where I need to focus my attention for growth.
From my mentor, I'd just like their perspective on my situation and their guidance on how to transition. I'd also like to leverage their networks, where possible and appropriate.

I have had a few careers. I started my career in geoscience in government, then moved into more governance / strategic roles over time. I'm now working in data governance.
Years of experience
Short term goals (1-2 years)
Understanding the landscape of the Australian / West Australian tech industry in more detail; find a path from myself to leave government and move into the private sector; find a way to develop my technical skills and have create real benefit to areas I'm passionate about (geoscience, environmental science); decide which area I'd like to work in (data science, software development, or something else)
Effort spent to achieve those goals
I'm working on a graduate diploma in data science currently (approx half way through). I've moved into a 'data governance' role, leveraging my governance expertise.
Long term goals (3+ years)
Be moving forward on a new career path, and have the flexibility to work in a way I want to and on something I'm passionate about. Create real value and outputs.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I don't have strong technical skills (although I'm trying to fix this). I also have certain limitations (I only work part time for example). I'm also quite indecisive around my career move but am also impatient for change.
In terms of strengths, I am experienced in what I do. I have good communication skills, and I work well with others. I'm also an excellent problem solver and conceptual thinker.
