Want the mentor to understand what he wants to achieve. what he's going through. Similar background to understand the tech space and a person with a track record in the management space (someone who grew from technology into management).
Prefer locally based mentor so they can meet face to face.

Improve the communication and management skills.
Be able to communicate with tech and non-tech audience. convey the message, inspire people with my vision and ideas.
Want to build trust with the people he works with (managers). Ensure the other person trusts his word. Want to be seen as a man of his word.
Effort spent to achieve those goals
Previous conversations with his manager, Guru tried to build a success story. Guru tried to convince the manager regarding recommended next steps with no luck as the manager kept asking questions and didn't feel like he understand the idea and concept Guru is presenting.
Doesn't feel like he's been taken seriously by the business stakeholders, despite his efforts.
