Expectations from the program and your mentor

Can find the technical material on his own but not sure how to take it and further develop it. Require guidance about how he can become more professional in IoT. Wants to become an IoT engineer in the future and want to know how to get there.

Professional status

Employed in my field of expertise

Professional field

Data Scientist @ South32

Years of experience

4

Short term goals (1-2 years)

Become an IoT engineer with specialisation in Computer Vision. As he is working in the mining industry, he wishes to apply his expertise in mining, utilities, manufacturing, oil and gas and engineering if possible.

Effort spent to achieve those goals

Online courses (Microsoft) to learn and study on his own. Haven't done much beyond. At the learning stage on how to combine computer vision and IoT devices.

Long term goals (3+ years)

Don't have a clear idea at this stage. Benya is driven by passion and want to exploit more of what he's doing now while mixing it with new areas.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strength - Self-taught, ambitious and technically capable.
No specific weakness comes to mind - Require guidance and assistance in paving the way forward. Seek direction.

Questions about the program

Wanted to know the duration, frequency and expectations of each role.
All info provided and next steps described.

Additional info

I have been working for 4.5 years as a data scientist and machine learning engineer in the mining industry. I am very interested in IoT, especially in computer vision applications using IoT, but I'm not sure where to begin. I am looking for a mentor who can provide insights about IoT applications in production (not limited to mining) and guide me towards a more professional role in IoT, with the potential to become an IoT engineer in the future.
Finished his PhD at UWA, focusing on classic machine learning.
Joined Rio as a grad data scientist and joined S32 as a specialist data scientist and recently transitioned to a specialist machine learning engineer.
Very passionate in machine vision and want to combine it with IoT devices (cameras, sensors and a lot of opportunities he believes exists in the mining industry).
