This Thursday, 29 May 2025, we kicked off our third Brew & Breakthrough in Adelaide and let me tell you, it just keeps getting better.
We meet in a café, and what starts as simple conversation over coffee soon turns into something deep and meaningful. As someone new to Australia, I find gatherings like this very helpful. It gives me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and start talking to people. When I first came here, I wished there was something like this, a friendly place to meet others and build a network without feeling too much pressure. That’s why I admire MiF and its people so much. Every session makes me feel more connected, and I take pride in being part of a group that is genuinely trying to make a difference in the community.
What We Took Away (Besides the Great Coffee)

Value networking. Go beyond job boards
Let’s get one thing straight: Seek.com and LinkedIn are great, but they’re not everything.
Some of the best opportunities come from real-world connections. A casual coffee can turn into a job lead.
Companies love referrals. They’re faster, cheaper, and more reliable than traditional hiring.
Don’t limit your network to just one field. A Business Analyst may know other Business Analysts, but a Product Owner might introduce you to an opportunity you never saw coming.
And remember, networking isn’t about asking for a job. It’s about building genuine relationships.

Show resilience. Rejection isn’t personal
Let’s face it, the job market can be brutal. You put in the effort, apply everywhere, and still face rejection. It stings.
However, the truth is that rejections aren’t personal. Hiring managers aren’t sending rejection emails just to you. They’re choosing from dozens, sometimes hundreds of applicants. So don’t let it break your spirit. Use it as fuel. Refocus, recharge, and keep pushing forward. Your resilience is your edge.

Cultural fit matters. It's not just about competency.
Our mentors all echoed one big truth: skills can be taught, but attitude can’t.
Being a good cultural fit, someone who is empathetic, values-driven, adaptable, and eager to grow, is often what tips the scales. Employers are looking for people who bring good energy into the room and can roll with change, not just tick off tools on a checklist.
A Brew to Remember
The coffee was spot on, but the conversations? Even better.
From hilarious mentor stories to spontaneous one-on-one chats, we found connection without even trying. That’s the magic of B&B, what starts as a simple coffee turns into a community.
Here’s to more brews, breakthroughs, and brilliant conversations.

No doubt I'll be at future B&Bs. Looking forward to seeing you then.
